Meet: Rachael Miller
Designer
Design cred: B.F.A in Graphic Design from the University of the Arts with a minor in advertising, & Postgraduate Certificate in Typeface Design from the Cooper Union
Where I hail from: South Jersey
Where I now call home: North Jersey
Where I hang out:
Any museum, antique store or beach, ANYWHERE. I love to explore exhibitions, shops and coastal towns. My favorite museum is the Mütter Physicians Museum, or the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. My favorite beach is Barnegat Light on Long Beach Island, NJ.
Favorite food:
Homemade, Comfort Food. Hungarian foods. Mustache Bill's Diner on Long Beach Island. The list goes on and on and on. How can you only list one food. If you have a chance to eat any Hungarian food get the Csirke Paprikás. If you are on LBI get the Southland Chicken Salad at Mustache Bill’s
The restaurant vibe I love most:
A Diner stuck in time. A Diner that is a pillar of the community it lives in. A Diner you walk into and the server knows your name and asks you how your family is doing. Just go to Mustache Bill’s on LBI.
A memorable meal:
Making Hungarian Nokedli and Paprikásh with my grandmother at her house. Using authentic Hungarian paprika and a tool fashioned by my grandfather to shape Hungarian Nokedli Dumplings.
A talent I’m proud of:
My persistence. Somehow I’m still trying to be good at calligraphy…
despite my left-handed smudges.
What inspires me in design:
Seeing old type, old printed work, that crusty hand-painted sign down the street from the bus stop.
