Meet: Nathan Metzler
Senior Designer
Design cred: Industrial & Product Design degree with a minor in Visual Communication, Cedarville University
Where I hail from: Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area but mostly grew up in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Where I now call home: Cincinnati, Ohio
Where I hang out:
Usually outdoors on a hike or bopping about a creek bed.
Favorite food:
Lox and bagels with the capers and all – perfection.
The restaurant vibe I love most:
Any place that’s tastefully eclectic that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Like a diner kinda spot where you could grab brunch but also hang out, sketch on some napkins, and get a good beer later. Maybe there’s a random 80s movie playing in the background or something funky like that!
A memorable meal:
My girlfriend and I stumbled into a restaurant on a hot day in Chiang Mai. The space was part art gallery, pottery shop, and restaurant with an amazing use of flowers as decoration. We had some fantastic pineapple fried rice (served in half a pineapple) and the most refreshing mango lassi ever. My girlfriend had never been to Thailand before and had yet to really have an authentic Thai meal, which made the experience all that much better.
A talent I’m proud of:
All things typography – lettering, typeface design, wordmarks, etc.
What inspires me in design:
I love the process of searching for and discovering the “solution” for identities and logos, but I also love the simple pursuit of the craft itself, especially in typography. The search for perfection in even the most basic letter forms is extremely satisfying and the endless possibilities of what those forms can look like is a constant inspiration/curiosity.
